A national public opinion survey has found that 66.3 percent of Bangladeshis are satisfied with the performance of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman during his first six months in office.
The findings were revealed on Wednesday in the “Approval Rating Survey 2026,” conducted by independent public opinion research organisation Doppler Research Bangladesh Ltd, with funding and support from Innovision Consulting.
According to the survey, 21.6 percent of respondents expressed dissatisfaction with the prime minister’s performance, while 12.1 percent either declined to answer or had no opinion.
The survey covered 10,413 samples, with 3,443 respondents completing interviews across 489 wards and villages in all 64 districts.
The results were weighted against 2022 census data.
The prime minister’s approval rating remained relatively consistent across age, gender, education and income groups, ranging from 61.7 percent to 70.3 percent. It was also above 62.3 percent in all eight divisions.
His approval extended beyond party lines, with 65.5 percent of Jamaat-e-Islami supporters, 65.8 percent of National Citizen Party supporters and 52.5 percent of Awami League supporters expressing satisfaction with his performance.
However, approval of the government as a whole was lower, with 54.5 percent rating its performance positively and 32.9 percent negatively.
The survey also found that 48.6 percent of respondents believed Bangladesh was moving in the right direction, while 35.6 percent said the country was heading in the wrong direction.
Electricity and fuel shortages and rising prices of essential commodities emerged as the two biggest concerns.
Some 59.5 percent identified electricity and fuel as major problems, while 59.1 percent cited the prices of essential goods. Law and order and employment followed.
The findings suggest that while public satisfaction with the prime minister remains relatively strong, concerns over the economy, essential commodity prices, energy supply and governance continue to shape public opinion.
