14 banned Jubo League, Chhatra League activists held in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM: Police have arrested 14 activists of the banned Jubo League and Chhatra League while they were allegedly preparing to bring out a procession in the city’s Panchlaish area.

The arrests were made during a raid near Muradpur No. 1 Railway Gate at around 12:30pm on Friday, police said.

The arrested individuals were identified as Md Kamrul Hasan, 36; Humayun Kabir, 35; Md Imran Hossain, 34; Nazmus Salehin Naim, 23; Md Emran Hossain, 26; Tanim Hasan, 24; Mehedi Hasan Shuvo, 21; Md Farhad Ullah, 19; Md Arafat, 20; Md Ifat Rahman, 19; Md Parvez, 25; Md Haider, 19; Md Nayan Hossain Emon, 17; and Md Abdullah Arman, 17.

Panchlaish Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mozammel Haque said police conducted the raid on a paved road near Muradpur No. 1 Railway Gate following a tip-off.

“They were arrested while preparing to bring out a procession,” he said, adding that all 14 were active members of the banned Bangladesh Awami Jubo League and Bangladesh Chhatra League.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner (Headquarters) Aminur Rashid said the arrestees had been charged under relevant sections of the amended Anti-Terrorism Act, 2009.

“They have been produced before the court following due legal procedure,” he said.
