BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said gas supplies across the country will return to normal within a week, stressing that the government is actively working to address the ongoing crises.
He described the current power and energy situation as part of a global crisis but said the government was not sitting idle and that all major problems would be resolved soon.
Rizvi made the remarks while speaking to journalists after paying tribute to BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia at their graves in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, on Tuesday, marking the party’s 48th founding anniversary.
He said what people primarily want to see during a crisis is how sincerely the government responds to it. According to Rizvi, the current government is demonstrating its commitment to addressing the problems in the public interest.
“The government, as well as the BNP as a political party, are working as partners,” he said, adding that the government was being run under the leadership of the prime minister while facing various challenges and conspiracies.
Rizvi said the BNP formed the government through a popular mandate, making it natural for many party leaders to hold government positions. When voters entrust a party with governing the country, qualified leaders and activists of that party are expected to take on various responsibilities in the state administration, he added.
He said BNP leaders and activists, from grassroots members to national-level leaders, would inform the public about the government’s welfare and public-interest programmes.
“There is no inconsistency or contradiction between the party and the government,” Rizvi said.
He added that those holding positions within the party would continue performing their organisational responsibilities, while BNP ministers would also carry out their party duties alongside their ministerial roles in accordance with their positions and organisational responsibilities.
