Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman has said Jamaat-e-Islami has accepted that its role and position during Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971 were not correct.
He made the remarks on Friday morning at a book-launch ceremony for Barrister Abdur Razzaq at a hotel in Gulshan, Dhaka.
The law minister said many questions could have been resolved had Jamaat accepted Razzaq’s proposal to apologise for its role during the 1971 Liberation War. He also said Razzaq remained relevant to the legal profession.
Asaduzzaman criticised the absence of Jamaat lawyers at the launch of Razzaq’s book.
Political scientist Dilara Chowdhury, meanwhile, said Jamaat still had many areas within the party that required reform.
Razzaq, a former Jamaat leader, had previously proposed that the party acknowledge and apologise for its role during the Liberation War.
