State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yaser Khan Chowdhury, addressing ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said, “Not December—if you have the courage, come now. I want to see you come right now. You have taken the blood of our people and left our mothers and sisters bereaved. Come and face the gallows. We are ready. We do not want to wait until December for the people to bring you under the law and seek justice. You will be brought to justice.”
He made the remarks on Wednesday afternoon as the chief guest at a protest rally and procession organized by the Kishoreganj district unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). The event was held to protest what the organizers described as attempts to destabilize the country through planned acts of violence, activities by the banned organization, and anarchy.
Addressing Awami League leaders and activists, Yaser Khan Chowdhury said, “You think you can frighten the people by burning two buses and throwing a cocktail. I want to warn you. The soldiers of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, together with the people, drove you out of the country. If necessary, those few who remain will also be driven out of the country. We will not allow Bangladesh to be destabilized.”
He said, “Our programme is nothing new. We have led the streets and restored democracy in Bangladesh. We have restored people’s right to vote. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, we have restored the people’s voting rights. Sheikh Hasina, whom he described as a ‘fascist’ and ‘killer,’ fled the country and is conspiring to undermine these voting rights and destroy democracy in Bangladesh.”
The state minister said, “We have countered these conspiracies and broken their alleged fascist system. Their conspiracy will not succeed. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party family is united across the country. BNP leaders and activists, together with the people, will continue to uphold democracy, voting rights and the country’s development.”
Earlier in the afternoon, BNP activists brought out a protest procession from the historic Rathkhola Maidan in Kishoreganj town. The procession passed through the city’s main roads before ending at Bijoy Chattar in Akhra Bazar. A brief rally was held there afterward.
Kishoreganj-1 MP Md. Mazharul Islam, Kishoreganj-2 MP Md. Jalal Uddin, and leaders and activists from various levels of the Kishoreganj district BNP and its affiliated and associate organizations attended the rally.
