Indian Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has vowed that the opposition will not retreat from its campaign against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, despite police action against protesters in New Delhi.

In a post on X on Saturday, Gandhi challenged Modi to deploy more police and arrest opposition leaders and young demonstrators, saying such measures would not stop the movement.

“Mr Modi, do whatever you want. Call out all the police: 10,000, 20,000, 50,000, whatever you want. Arrest all the leaders. Arrest all the young people. Arrest us all. We are surrounding you, and we are not going to back down,” he said.

Gandhi accused the ruling establishment of trying to suppress opposition voices and said he had been fighting Modi and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for more than a decade.

He pledged to defend India’s Constitution and protect the voice of the people, while urging young Indians to continue protesting.

“Youth of India, I am proud of you. Keep protesting. We are standing with you,” he said.

His remarks came amid protests in Delhi against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in electoral roll revisions.

Police detained thousands of protesters and deployed extensive security measures to prevent demonstrations at Jantar Mantar.

The Election Commission has defended the voter-list revision exercise, while opposition parties have questioned its fairness. <Cite refs={[“turn179812news4″,”turn179812news3″,”turn179812news14”]}/>
