NEW DELHI, October 10: India’s opposition INDIA bloc has called a major protest in New Delhi on Monday, October 12, as part of its campaign to safeguard voting rights and ensure a fair electoral process.

Congress general secretary K C Venugopal announced the protest on Saturday, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government of protecting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar amid allegations of irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls.

Opposition parties have alleged that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists led to the deletion of millions of names and raised concerns over electoral transparency. They have demanded accountability from the Election Commission and vowed to continue their agitation until the electoral process is made free and fair.

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee and party leader Abhishek Banerjee are also expected to join the protest in the capital.

The announcement comes amid heightened security in Delhi, where authorities have detained protesters and deployed security personnel to prevent demonstrations over the voter-list revision controversy.

The Election Commission has rejected allegations of wrongdoing, maintaining that the voter-list revision was part of a verification process.
