National Jubo Shokti, the youth wing of the National Citizen Party (NCP), on Sunday demanded the resignation of State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque over the alleged question leak in a recruitment examination, placing four other demands.
The organisation announced the five-point demand during a programme to surround the Department of Youth Development headquarters in Motijheel, Dhaka.
Its demands include an independent and impartial investigation into the alleged leak, the arrest and punishment of those responsible, merit-based recruitment, an end to harassment during verification and manipulation of viva voce marks, and a specific government plan to create jobs for unemployed youths.
Speaking at the programme, Jubo Shokti Organising Secretary Rifat Rashid alleged that political connections, quotas and excessive marks in viva voce examinations were undermining merit-based recruitment.
He said 319,000 candidates had applied for 242 posts of assistant upazila youth development officer, reflecting the intense competition in the job market.
Jubo Shokti General Secretary Farhad Sohel accused the BNP government of attempting to politicise state institutions and alleged that it was creating opportunities for corrupt individuals instead of fulfilling its pledge to create one crore jobs.
Jubo Shokti President Advocate Tarikul Islam criticised the government for failing to take effective action after reports of the question leak emerged on the eve of the examination.
He also alleged that young people were being forced to rely on political connections to secure jobs and demanded Aminul’s resignation.
The organisation urged the government to ensure transparency in recruitment and take concrete steps to address youth unemployment.
