DHAKA: The National Citizen Party (NCP) has announced that it will not participate in the one-party Constitution Amendment Committee, demanding the immediate implementation of the referendum verdict, dissolution of the committee and formation of a Constitution Reform Council.
NCP Member Secretary Akhter Hossain announced the three demands at an emergency press conference at the party’s office on Saturday afternoon, marking the anniversary of the signing of the July Charter.
He said the referendum verdict must be implemented without delay and the one-party Constitution Amendment Committee dissolved immediately to make way for a Constitution Reform Council.
“The NCP will not join the one-party Constitution Amendment Committee,” Akhter said, urging all concerned not to spread any confusion over the party’s position.
NCP Political Council member and Joint Convener Sarwar Tushar, Political Council member Saleh Uddin Sifat, Joint Convener Monira Sharmin and Joint Member Secretary Faridul Haque were present at the press conference.
