State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraq Hossain attended a press conference at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Monday to make a final announcement about his resignation from the cabinet.
He arrived at the Abdus Salam Hall of the press club at 2pm on October 19, as scheduled.
After a night of developments on Sunday, Ishraq announced on Monday morning that he would resign from his position. In a Facebook post, he said he would make the final announcement at the press conference and face journalists.
The resignation announcement follows controversy over an anti-drug operation in the capital’s Gandaria area on Saturday, when Ishraq was seen carrying a firearm. Other people accompanying him were also seen carrying weapons.
Videos of the incident circulated on social media, triggering widespread discussion and criticism.
