Staff Correspondent: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Dhaka North unit has announced a public rally in the capital’s Mirpur-10 area on Thursday to press for the implementation of the July Charter and demand justice for the July massacre and crimes against humanity.
The announcement was made in a press release issued on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the rally will begin at 4:00 pm as part of the party’s previously announced nationwide programme aimed at implementing the July Charter, upholding the spirit of the July mass uprising and enforcing what it described as the people’s mandate expressed through the referendum. The party will also reiterate its demand for the trial of those responsible for the July killings and crimes against humanity.
Jamaat-e-Islami Central Majlis-e-Shura member and Dhaka North unit’s publicity and media secretary Ataur Rahman Sarkar said the party’s Ameer and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Dr Shafiqur Rahman, will attend the rally as the chief guest.
The meeting will be chaired by Mohammad Selim Uddin, a member of Jamaat’s Central Executive Council, Ameer of the party’s Dhaka North unit and its mayoral candidate for the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
According to the organisers, the rally is expected to draw party leaders and activists from the Mirpur zone, along with local residents.
