Satkhira: A local leader of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in Shyamnagar, Satkhira, has publicly resigned from the party after symbolically bathing in one maund (approximately 40 kilograms) of milk, citing disappointment over a recent video controversy involving local Member of Parliament Gazi Nazrul Islam.
The unusual protest took place at around 6:00 p.m. on Thursday (July 23) in Harinagari village under Nurnagar Union, drawing widespread attention from local residents.
The former party leader, Md. Delwar Hossain, son of Md. Munsur Sardar of Harinagari village, had been serving as the Baitul Mal (finance) secretary and youth affairs secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ward No. 8 unit in Nurnagar Union.
According to local sources, Delwar decided to leave the party following the recent controversy surrounding a video allegedly involving Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul Islam. As a symbolic gesture marking his departure, he bathed in about 40 kilograms of milk in front of local residents before announcing his resignation from all party activities.
Speaking at the event, Delwar Hossain said, “I am deeply saddened by the recent incident. As a party worker, I could not accept the situation. Guided by my conscience, I am withdrawing myself from all organizational and political activities of Jamaat-e-Islami.”
Residents who witnessed the event said Delwar had long been an active and responsible member of the party. They added that the allegations and controversy surrounding the MP had also deeply disturbed many people in the area. They called for a fair investigation and appropriate legal action if the allegations are proven.
When contacted, Abdul Razzak, president of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ward No. 8 unit in Nurnagar Union, confirmed that Delwar was a party worker. However, he said he could not immediately verify whether Delwar had been serving as the ward’s Baitul Mal secretary, adding that he would need to check the records.
The incident comes amid growing reactions among Jamaat leaders and activists in Satkhira following the recent video controversy involving MP Gazi Nazrul Islam. Delwar’s symbolic resignation has added a new dimension to the political discussion in the district.
