Former President Mohammed Shahabuddin has returned to his private residence in Gulshan after formally stepping down from office and vacating the official presidential residence, Bangabhaban.
He arrived at his home, “Green Villa” on Road No. 123 in Gulshan at around 3:00pm on Sunday (July 26).
Earlier in the day, at approximately 2:25pm, Shahabuddin left Bangabhaban for Gulshan under tight security.
Shahabuddin resigned from the presidency on Friday (July 24). Although he was elected for a five-year term under the Constitution, he stepped down after serving for three years and three months. His departure from Bangabhaban on Sunday marked the formal end of his tenure at the presidential residence.
Mohammed Shahabuddin was the 22nd President of Bangladesh. He assumed office on April 24, 2023. Following his resignation on July 24, a government gazette appointed Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed as the Acting President in accordance with constitutional provisions.
