DHAKA: President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called on affluent people to play a greater role in social welfare alongside the government to ensure that underprivileged people have equal access to healthcare.

He made the call on Sunday when a delegation led by Bangladesh Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons President Professor Dr Md Rashedul Islam met him at Bangabhaban.

The President’s Press Wing confirmed the matter in a statement.

During the meeting, Dr Rashedul informed the President that Bangladesh now provides world-class colon and rectal surgery services, eliminating the need for patients to travel abroad for treatment. He also said the country’s colon and rectal surgeons had established a strong reputation internationally.

Dr Rashedul formally invited the President to attend the BSCRS Congress 2026, an international colorectal surgery conference organised by the society on October 27, as the chief guest.

The President accepted the invitation and assured the delegation that he would attend the event.

The President’s military secretary and secretary, along with members of the Bangladesh Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and colorectal specialist surgeons, were present at the meeting.
