President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi are scheduled to visit the Ramakrishna Math and Mission in Dhaka during the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations to exchange greetings with members of the Hindu community.
According to the mission authorities, the president will visit the Ramakrishna Math and Mission in Gopibagh on October 18, the occasion of Maha Saptami.
It will be his first visit to a Durga Puja celebration since assuming the office of president.
He is scheduled to arrive at the mission in the morning and exchange festive greetings with monks, devotees and members of the Hindu community.
Preparations for his visit have been completed jointly by Bangabhaban and the mission authorities.
Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi is scheduled to visit the mission on October 19, the day of Maha Ashtami.
His visit will coincide with the special Kumari Puja and Anjali rituals, two important parts of the Durga Puja celebrations.
During the visit, the Indian envoy is expected to observe the religious ceremonies and exchange greetings with devotees. His participation is seen as a reflection of the longstanding cultural and spiritual ties between Bangladesh and India.
Swami Purnatmananda, head of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission in Dhaka, said the visits by the president and the Indian high commissioner were a matter of great honour for the institution.
He noted that Durga Puja at the mission carries a tradition spanning more than a century, adding that the presence of the two dignitaries would enhance the festive atmosphere.
The Ramakrishna Mission’s Durga Puja is widely recognised for its Vedic chants, adherence to traditional rituals and the observance of Kumari Puja, in which a young girl is worshipped as a manifestation of the divine feminine.
Special arrangements will be made to ensure security and facilitate the movement of visitors during the two days, the report said.
