Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday called on children to prepare themselves as capable, responsible and disciplined citizens, saying Bangladesh’s dream of becoming a beautiful and prosperous nation depends on the younger generation.
“If today’s children can build themselves properly for the future, only then will it be possible to build a beautiful and prosperous Bangladesh,” he said while addressing the closing and prize-giving ceremony of the ‘Notun Kuri Sports 2025-26’ competition at the Bangladesh Army Stadium.
Speaking before hundreds of young participants, parents and organisers, the Prime Minister said the government is committed to steering the country in the right direction, but lasting progress will only be possible if children develop themselves through both education and sports.
“We are working to build the country properly. But we can do this work successfully only when you, those sitting in the gallery today and those who have received awards on the playing field, prepare yourselves for the future,” he said.
Urging children to strike a balance between academics and extracurricular activities, Tarique said they should pursue both with equal dedication.
“While studying, you have to study with dedication, and in the same way, you have to play with the same commitment,” he said.
The Prime Minister noted that sports help develop discipline, teamwork, leadership and perseverance, qualities that are essential for building responsible citizens and future national leaders.
He congratulated the winners of the competition and encouraged those who did not receive prizes not to lose heart, saying participation, determination and continuous improvement are equally important in achieving success.
The Prime Minister also thanked the organisers of Notun Kuri Sports for providing a platform where children can showcase their talents and develop their physical and mental abilities alongside their academic pursuits.
He expressed hope that the young participants would carry forward the values of discipline, integrity and hard work, contributing to the country’s development in the years ahead.
