Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed Litton Kumar Das as the new captain of the national ODI team, replacing Mehidy Hasan Miraz in a leadership reshuffle aimed at streamlining captaincy across formats.
The decision was announced by BCB President Tamim Iqbal following the board meeting on Wednesday.
Under the new leadership structure, Bangladesh will have two captains instead of three—one for the red-ball format and another for white-ball cricket. Litton, who is already the captain of the T20I side, will now lead both the ODI and T20I teams, while Najmul Hossain Shanto will continue as the Test captain.
The BCB has also named Towhid Hridoy as the vice-captain of both the ODI and T20I teams.
“We have decided to have two captains for the three formats. I believe it is important to have separate captains for white-ball and red-ball cricket, and the board has agreed with this approach,” Tamim said.
Although Miraz has been removed from the ODI captaincy, Tamim praised his leadership record, describing him as a successful captain. He said the board now wants the all-rounder to focus fully on his individual performances with both bat and ball.
“We need Miraz more as a performer. We want him to return to his best form, and relieving him of the captaincy will help him concentrate on his game,” Tamim said, adding that the decision was discussed with Miraz beforehand and that the all-rounder agreed with the move.
Miraz was appointed ODI captain in June 2025, replacing Shanto. He led Bangladesh in 24 ODIs, winning 10 matches. During his tenure, Bangladesh secured consecutive ODI series victories over the West Indies, Pakistan, New Zealand and Australia. However, the team struggled away from home and most recently suffered a 2-1 series defeat to Zimbabwe.
