Lionel Messi made his return for Inter Miami after nearly two weeks of rest following the FIFA World Cup final, but his comeback ended in a frustrating 2-2 draw against Columbus in Major League Soccer (MLS).

The Argentine captain had taken a break in his homeland after Argentina’s defeat to Spain in the World Cup final and missed Inter Miami’s previous matches before rejoining the squad.

Messi did not start against Columbus, coming on as a substitute at the beginning of the second half. His introduction sparked loud cheers from the fans at the stadium, who welcomed the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner back to action.

Inter Miami appeared to be on course for victory after taking a 2-1 lead before halftime and maintaining the advantage for most of the match. However, Columbus struck late, with Bryce Mendes scoring the equalizer in the 84th minute to deny Miami all three points.

The match ended 2-2, with Messi marking his return to club football by helping Inter Miami earn a point, though the team was unable to hold on for the win.
