Bangladesh have strengthened their chances of reaching the World Test Championship (WTC) final, while Pakistan and the West Indies have been eliminated from the race.
Seven teams remain in contention, with the top two sides in the points-percentage table advancing to the final. Each team, however, faces a different path to qualification.
1. Australia — 77.78%
Australia are in the strongest position with nine Tests remaining. Winning five of those matches would put Pat Cummins’ side in a strong position to secure a place in the final.
2. South Africa — 75.00%
Second-placed South Africa also have nine Tests left. Temba Bavuma’s team would need to win six of them to secure their place.
3. New Zealand — 72.22%
The defending champions have eight Tests remaining and would need to win five to return to the final.
4. Bangladesh — 66.67%
Bangladesh have boosted their prospects after beating Australia in the first Test. They have nine matches remaining and would need to win seven to have a strong chance of reaching the final.
5. India — 48.15%
India also have nine Tests left. Shubman Gill’s side would need to win at least seven to remain firmly in contention.
6. Sri Lanka — 41.67%
Sri Lanka have eight Tests remaining and need five wins and two draws. A defeat in more than one of those matches would end their hopes.
7. England — 24.36%
England have the toughest task. They must win all their remaining Tests to keep their hopes of reaching the final alive.
With several of the contenders still scheduled to face one another, the standings could change significantly after every match. A victory for one team could directly affect another’s chances of reaching the WTC final.
