Australia have made one change to their squad for the second and final Test against Bangladesh, replacing opener Jake Weatherald with Matt Renshaw.
Weatherald was dropped after scoring just 23 and 0 in the two innings of the first Test in Darwin, where Bangladesh secured a nine-wicket victory.
The 31-year-old had also struggled during the previous Test season, scoring 224 runs in six matches at an average of 20.38, including the Ashes.
Renshaw, meanwhile, is set to play his first Test since 2023. He scored at an average of 49.90 in the last Sheffield Shield season, including three centuries. He has also recently impressed in limited-overs cricket for Australia.
Renshaw averages 29.31 in Test cricket, with a career-best 184 against Pakistan in 2017. He has also scored two first-class centuries at Mackay’s Great Barrier Reef venue.
Australia coach Andrew McDonald had praised Weatherald’s change in batting approach after the first Test, but selectors have ultimately opted to leave him out of the second match.
The second Test will begin on Saturday. Bangladesh lead the two-match series 1-0 after their historic victory in Darwin.
Australia need a win in Mackay to level the series, while Bangladesh will aim to secure their first-ever Test series victory on Australian soil.
