Bangladesh cricketers have made significant gains in the latest Test rankings following their historic victory over Australia in the Darwin Test.
Captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto has climbed nine places to a career-best 20th position, while Tanzid Hasan and Hasan Mahmud have also made major gains. Meanwhile, Australia’s Travis Head has lost the top spot in the Test batting rankings after failing to make an impact against Bangladesh.
Nazmul scored 84 in the first innings of the Darwin Test. Having had only one opportunity to bat in the match, the Bangladesh captain moved up nine places to 20th in the latest rankings.
However, Mushfiqur Rahim remains Bangladesh’s highest-ranked batter. He is in 18th place, eight rating points ahead of Nazmul. Mushfiqur, who played his 104th Test in Darwin, retained his previous position.
Mominul Haque moved up five places to 31st, while Sadman Islam climbed three spots to 58th. Mehidy Hasan Miraz also advanced five places to 59th.
The biggest jump among Bangladesh batters came from Tanzid Hasan. The opener, who scored a century in the first innings in Darwin, surged 84 places to 88th after just his second Test.
Head, meanwhile, slipped from the top of the Test batting rankings after scoring 22 and 17 against Bangladesh. The Australian dropped three places to fourth.
England’s Harry Brook has taken over the top spot, followed by England captain Joe Root in second and Australia’s Steve Smith in third. Head is fourth, just 33 rating points behind Brook.
India’s Jasprit Bumrah, who did not feature in the Galle Test, retained the top spot in the Test bowling rankings.
Among Bangladesh bowlers, Taijul Islam remains the highest-ranked at 11th, unchanged from the previous rankings.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who took five wickets in Australia’s second innings, climbed three places to 24th.
Hasan Mahmud made the biggest leap among Bangladesh bowlers. Named player of the match after taking nine wickets in the Darwin Test—six in the first innings and three in the second—the pacer climbed 26 places to a career-best 38th.
Taskin Ahmed moved up one place to 49th, while fellow pacer Ebadot Hossain advanced four places to 82nd.
In the Test all-rounder rankings, Miraz remains third, while India’s Ravindra Jadeja continues to occupy the top position.a
