Australia dominated the opening day of the second Test against Bangladesh in Mackay, bowling the visitors out for just 64 before reaching 50-3 in their first innings at stumps.

Mitchell Starc was the standout performer, taking 6-12, including five wickets in just 22 balls, as Bangladesh collapsed after losing the toss. Starc also struck with the first ball of the match.

Bangladesh struggled to cope with the pace and bounce at the Great Barrier Reef Arena, with No. 11 Shoriful Islam top-scoring with 14.

Australia then lost three early wickets in reply, but Steve Smith and Cameron Green steadied the innings before the close.

The second Test is being played at Mackay’s Great Barrier Reef Arena, which is hosting its first men’s Test.

Bangladesh won the opening Test in Darwin by nine wickets to secure their first Test victory on Australian soil.
