FIFA President Gianni Infantino will seek re-election for a fourth term in the 2027 presidential election, the world football governing body confirmed on Sunday.
The 56-year-old Swiss official, who has led FIFA since 2016, had already announced his intention to run at the FIFA Congress in Vancouver in April. FIFA said there had been no change in his decision.
Infantino’s re-election bid comes amid growing opposition over his controversial FIFA Forward Enterprise plan to bring private investment into FIFA competitions.
The proposal was abandoned after strong resistance from several football confederations, including UEFA, the AFC and Concacaf.
Despite the controversy, Infantino retains significant support, particularly from African and South American football bodies. No other candidate has formally announced a bid so far.
The FIFA presidential election is scheduled for March 2027 in Rabat, Morocco. If re-elected, Infantino would serve a fourth and final term.
