India opener Abhishek Sharma set a new record among players from Test-playing nations by smashing a century off just 30 balls in the final T20I of the series against Afghanistan.
Abhishek began his explosive innings by hitting a six off the first ball and continued to punish the Afghan bowlers with a barrage of boundaries.
He reached his third T20I century in only 30 deliveries, surpassing the previous record for the fastest century by a batter from a Test-playing nation, held by New Zealand’s Finn Allen.
Allen had scored a 33-ball century against South Africa earlier this year.
Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza has also made a 33-ball hundred, although his came against Gambia, which is not an ICC Full Member.
Across all nations, Abhishek’s 30-ball century ranks as the third-fastest in men’s international T20 cricket. Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan holds the record with a 27-ball hundred against Cyprus, while Turkey’s Muhammed Fahad scored a 29-ball century against Bulgaria.
Abhishek could not add much to his score after reaching three figures. He faced only four more deliveries before being dismissed for a blistering 108 off 34 balls, including nine fours and 11 sixes.
Powered by Abhishek’s stunning century, India set Afghanistan a target of 223 runs.
