India will face Bangladesh in the semi-final of the women’s cricket event at the Asian Games after defeating Japan in the quarter-final on Friday.
The two sides will meet on September 20 for a place in the final. Pakistan and Sri Lanka will contest the other semi-final on the same day.
Batting first after losing the toss at Kurogi Sports Park in Japan, the hosts were restricted to just 57 runs in their allotted overs.
India comfortably chased down the target in five overs, losing two wickets, to seal an eight-wicket victory and book their place in the last four.
Bangladesh were originally scheduled to play China in their quarter-final, but the match was abandoned because of a wet outfield. Bangladesh advanced directly to the semi-finals due to their higher T20I ranking.
Bangladesh are ranked 10th in the ICC T20I rankings, while China are 36th.
The semi-final will be another meeting between the two South Asian rivals just a week after they faced each other in the Asia Cup semi-final.
India scored 149 in that match before Bangladesh managed 109-7, losing by 40 runs.
Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty and her teammates will now have another opportunity to face India and seek a different result in the Asian Games semi-final.
