World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the China Open in Beijing as he continues to recover from a knee injury that also forced him to miss the US Open.
The 25-year-old Italian has not played since winning his second consecutive Wimbledon title in July.
He also skipped the Canadian Open and withdrew from the Cincinnati Open before pulling out of the US Open.
“I’m very sorry to announce that I won’t be able to play in Beijing this year,” Sinner said in a social media message. “My knee is not where I would like it to be, and I’m not ready to compete yet.”
Sinner was due to defend his China Open title after beating American Learner Tien in last year’s final. He also won the Beijing tournament in 2023.
The China Open men’s event will run from September 30 to October 6. Sinner has not confirmed a date for his return, although the Shanghai Masters, beginning on October 7, could be his next opportunity to compete.
