World champions Spain began their UEFA Nations League campaign with a thrilling 3-2 victory over England at Wembley on Saturday, coming from behind to secure the win.
Lamine Yamal opened the scoring for Spain in the second minute on his first appearance at Wembley, capitalising on a defensive mistake.
England responded strongly, with Anthony Gordon equalising before Harry Kane put the hosts ahead within a four-minute spell in the first half.
England had a chance to extend their lead early in the second half when Kane was awarded a penalty, but the England captain missed from the spot.
Spain then turned the match around through two substitutes. Alex Baena equalised before Mikel Oyarzabal scored the decisive goal to complete Spain’s comeback.
The victory marked Spain’s first match since winning the World Cup and gave Luis de la Fuente’s side a winning start to their Nations League campaign.
