Six members of Bangladesh’s national table tennis team have been stranded at an airport in Thailand for two days due to flight disruptions caused by sudden flooding.

The players and coach were travelling to Japan to participate in the Asian Games when the natural disaster caused uncertainty over their onward journey.

The stranded members are Ramhimlion Bom, Imrul Kayes Emon, Sonam Sultana Soma, Nowrin Sultana Mahi, Samanta Hossain Tushi, and coach and federation member Mohammad Mohsinul Alam Jhinu.

Bangladesh delegation manager and Table Tennis Federation general secretary Mohammad Saidul Haque Sadi and top men’s player Muhtasin Ahmed Hridoy were able to return home as they had tickets on a different flight.

According to reports, mainly passengers travelling on Thai Airways have been affected by the situation. The airline and airport authorities are struggling to provide necessary assistance to stranded passengers amid the sudden flooding.

As a result, the Bangladesh team members have been forced to wait at the airport.

Considering the situation, the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) is trying to arrange alternative flights to bring the stranded players and coach back home.
