Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Tamim Iqbal is set to become the next president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), according to a report by Cricbuzz.

The ACC’s current president, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi, is scheduled to complete his term on April 2, 2027. His tenure is unlikely to be extended unless he secures unanimous support from the ACC executive board, the report said.

Under the ACC’s rotation system, the presidency is shared among Asia’s five full-member countries every two years. The next turn is expected to go to Bangladesh.

Tamim is reportedly interested in taking up the position and has already conveyed his willingness to the ACC, according to the report.

The ACC executive board comprises India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

Although the presidency generally runs from March to March, Naqvi’s current term is due to end on April 2 next year. There have been exceptions in the past, with an extension requiring the full agreement of the member countries.

Former BCCI secretary Jay Shah served a third term as ACC president last year after Sri Lanka agreed to defer its turn by a year.

An ACC member told Cricbuzz that, irrespective of speculation surrounding Naqvi’s tenure, the presidency is expected to pass to Bangladesh after April 2027 and that there is an understanding among ACC members that Tamim is interested in the position.

The member also said the ACC president’s tenure is separate from the timing of its annual general meeting and that the latter does not determine the length of the presidency.
