UEFA Nations League: Spain through, England surge

Spain booked their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026-27 UEFA Nations League with a 2-1 comeback win over Croatia on Tuesday, while England strengthened their position with a 3-0 victory over Czechia.

Mikel Merino scored twice for Spain, including an 89th-minute winner, after Ivan Perisic had put Croatia ahead. Spain now lead Group A3 with 12 points from four matches and have extended their unbeaten run to 42 games.

England, meanwhile, moved to nine points after Harry Kane scored twice in a 3-0 win at Wembley. Kane also assisted England’s opening goal and won his 125th cap, equalling Peter Shilton’s record for appearances. England had earlier demolished Croatia 7-0.

In other Tuesday matches, Switzerland maintained their perfect record in League B Group 1 with a 3-0 win over North Macedonia, while Slovenia beat Scotland 2-1. Scotland are now third in the group with four points.

Slovakia strengthened their position in League C Group 3 with a 4-0 victory over Moldova. Albania beat San Marino 2-1, Belarus defeated Finland 1-0, and Kazakhstan drew 2-2 with the Faroe Islands.

The next Nations League matches are scheduled for November 12-17, when the final two rounds of the league phase will determine the remaining quarter-finalists and promotion/relegation positions.

  • A3: Spain 12 points, England 9, Croatia 3, Czechia 0
  • A1: France lead after their 4-1 win over Belgium; Italy are also in contention.
  • A2: Netherlands lead on goal difference over Greece, with Germany third.
