Bangladesh moved closer to victory in the one-off Test against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi after left-arm spinner Taijul Islam dismissed centurion Sedikullah Atal on the final day on Tuesday.
Atal scored 111 off 332 balls, ending a stubborn resistance that had frustrated Bangladesh for much of the innings. Taijul claimed his first wicket of the match after bowling 58.4 overs in Afghanistan’s second innings.
Chasing a massive target of 479 set by Bangladesh on Monday, Afghanistan were struggling at 302-7 after 126 overs, still needing 179 runs to win with only three wickets remaining.
With 14 overs left in the day, Bangladesh needed three more wickets to seal victory.
