Although Bangladesh will not feature at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) will receive financial support from FIFA’s football development fund.

The 2026 World Cup, to be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, will feature a record 48 teams, up from 32 in previous editions.

FIFA has announced a total prize fund of $871 million, around 65 percent higher than the 2022 tournament.

A portion of the revenue generated from the World Cup is allocated to FIFA’s member associations for football development.

As a FIFA member, Bangladesh will receive funding after the tournament to support grassroots and development programmes.

Former national footballer Zulfikar Mahmud Mintu said FIFA distributes part of its World Cup revenue among all member associations as part of its commitment to developing football worldwide.

He added that the expansion to 48 teams has created greater opportunities for Asian and African nations to qualify for the tournament.

Participating teams will also receive record prize money. Each team will be awarded $2.5 million for preparation, training camps and travel.

Teams eliminated in the group stage will receive an additional $10 million, taking their total earnings to $12.5 million.

Teams exiting in the round of 32 will earn $12 million, while those eliminated in the round of 16 and quarter-finals will receive $16 million and $20 million, respectively.

The fourth-placed team will receive $27 million, the third-placed team $29 million, the runners-up $33 million, and the 2026 FIFA World Cup champions will earn a record $50 million in prize money.
