State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque has said the government plans to establish a playground in every union and build 10 sports villages in 10 districts to promote sports and develop a healthier generation.

He made the remarks as chief guest at the final of the Begum Khaleda Zia Under-17 Football Tournament at Osmani Stadium in Masdair, Narayanganj, on Friday.

“We have a plan to establish an international-standard sports village in Narayanganj,” the state minister said.

The proposed sports village will feature modern indoor and outdoor facilities for football, cricket, archery, shooting, swimming and other sports, he added.

Aminul said the prime minister is working to build a healthy and sound nation by encouraging young people to take part in sports.

The government is also implementing various initiatives to draw the younger generation away from excessive dependence on digital devices, he said.

“We are working to make sports a compulsory subject in textbooks. We want cooperation from all quarters to build a drug-free society,” the state minister said.

Lawmakers Nazrul Islam Azad and Azharul Islam Manan, Narayanganj Development Authority Chairman Mashukul Islam Rajib, District Council Administrator Professor Mamun Mahmud and local political leaders, among others, attended the event.
