Bangladesh stocks begin week on positive note

Trading on the country’s two stock exchanges opened on a positive note on Sunday (September 20), the first trading day of the week, with key indices rising. Both markets also closed higher in the previous session.

According to the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), the DSE’s benchmark DSEX index rose 30 points to 5,563 at 10:30am, about 30 minutes after trading began.

The DSES Shariah index gained 6 points to 1,112, while the DSE-30 index advanced 9 points to 2,111.

Shares and mutual fund units worth Tk98.16 crore were traded on the DSE during the period. Of the issues traded, 280 advanced, 41 declined and 51 remained unchanged.

The top 10 traded companies were Sharp Industries, MBL First Mutual Fund, Lovello Ice Cream, ICB AMCL Sonali Bank First Mutual Fund, Orion Infusion, Paramount Textile, Envoy Textiles, Eastern Bank, Malek Spinning and Saiham Textile.

The DSEX gained 19 points in the first five minutes of trading and rose another 13 points by 10:10am. At 10:20am, the index was up 28 points at 5,560.

Meanwhile, the CSE’s CASPI index gained 16 points to 14,752 at 10:30am. Shares and mutual fund units worth Tk15 lakh were traded on the CSE during the period, with 14 issues gaining, three declining and two remaining unchanged.
