For the first time in its history, Amazon has crossed the US$3 trillion market capitalization milestone, driven by the exceptional performance of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and surging global demand for artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.

The e-commerce and cloud computing giant reached the landmark after its shares climbed more than 5% to a record US$286.20, setting a new milestone on Wall Street.

The sharp rise in Amazon’s valuation followed the company’s strongest cloud computing growth in four years and its announcement of increased annual capital expenditure (CapEx), signaling continued aggressive investment in AI infrastructure.

According to market analysts, Amazon is benefiting directly from its expanding partnerships with leading AI companies, including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta, particularly in cloud infrastructure and advanced AI chip deployment. These collaborations have strengthened AWS’s position as one of the world’s leading cloud platforms serving the rapidly growing generative AI ecosystem.

Founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994, Amazon reached a US$2 trillion valuation in June 2024. It has now added another US$1 trillion in market value in just over two years, underscoring investors’ growing confidence in the company’s long-term AI and cloud computing strategy.

Amazon’s latest achievement also highlights the widening gap among the so-called “Magnificent Seven” U.S. technology companies, as investors increasingly reward firms with strong AI-driven growth strategies and substantial investments in next-generation computing infrastructure.

With this milestone, Amazon becomes the fifth company to surpass the US$3 trillion valuation mark, joining Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, and Nvidia in one of the most exclusive groups in global corporate history.

At present, Nvidia remains the world’s most valuable publicly traded company, with a market capitalization approaching US$5 trillion.
