Leo ICT Cables PLC has upgraded its lithium-ion battery pack manufacturing facility with advanced automation, robotics and modern production technologies, marking a significant step forward for Bangladesh’s emerging energy storage industry.
The company has installed automated production systems and robotic technologies at its manufacturing plant in the Kaliakair Hi-Tech Park in Gazipur.
The investment is expected to improve the quality, precision, safety and production capacity of its HQ-brand lithium-ion battery packs.
According to the company, it has been manufacturing and marketing HQ lithium-ion battery packs in Bangladesh for the past two years.
With domestic demand for lithium-ion batteries continuing to rise, the latest technological upgrade is aimed at achieving internationally competitive manufacturing standards while expanding production capacity.
The automated production line will manufacture battery packs for renewable energy storage systems, electric vehicles (EVs), UPS and IPS solutions, data centres, electric three-wheelers and various industrial applications.
The facility has a production capacity of around 400 lithium-ion battery packs per day across nearly 40 product categories, the company said.
Industry stakeholders said the investment represents an important milestone for Bangladesh’s growing lithium-ion battery manufacturing sector.
The adoption of automated production is expected to enhance product consistency, operational safety, manufacturing precision and overall productivity.
The global lithium-ion battery market is expanding rapidly, driven by growing demand for electric vehicles and renewable energy storage systems.
Bangladesh is also witnessing increasing demand for advanced battery technologies, making greater domestic production capacity strategically important for the country’s industrial development.
Sector experts said expanding local manufacturing could reduce dependence on imported battery products, save foreign exchange, attract investment in technology-driven industries and create skilled employment opportunities.
It could also help develop ancillary industries within the country’s broader manufacturing ecosystem.
The company said its continued investment in advanced manufacturing technologies is aligned with the government’s broader efforts to promote renewable energy, strengthen domestic industrial capacity and create employment.
Through internationally standardised production, Leo ICT Cables aims to reduce import dependence, contribute to industrialisation and support Bangladesh’s economic growth.
Experts, however, said long-term global competitiveness would depend not only on increasing production capacity but also on sustained investment in research and development (R&D), international quality certification, product safety, technology transfer and development of a highly skilled workforce.
