Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen on Saturday said Beijing is seriously considering introducing high-speed bullet train technology in Bangladesh as part of broader infrastructure and connectivity cooperation between the two countries.
Speaking at a seminar in the capital, the ambassador said work on the Bangladesh-China-Myanmar Economic Corridor (BCMEC) is progressing and the possibility of using China’s advanced high-speed rail technology in Bangladesh is under active consideration.
He also reaffirmed China’s commitment to providing full technical and financial support for the implementation of the Teesta Megaproject, expanding market access for Bangladeshi products in China, and continuing efforts to help resolve the Rohingya crisis.
The remarks came at a seminar titled “Long Live Bangladesh-China Friendship,” organised by the Bangladesh-China Friendship Association at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka.
Speakers at the event said recent high-level exchanges between the two countries have elevated Bangladesh-China relations to one of the strongest phases in their history.
Addressing the seminar as the chief guest, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said China has emerged as a major global economic power and remains an important development partner for Bangladesh.
