JU Correspondent: Jahangirnagar University (JU) has launched iTracker, a live bus tracking application designed to help students monitor the real-time location of university buses, aiming to ease long-standing transport difficulties on campus.
The system was formally inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan at a ceremony held at the university’s Central Field on Sunday.
Introduced by the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JAKSU) under the slogan “Smart Transport, Smart Campus,” the mobile application enables students to track the movement of campus buses in real time, reducing uncertainty and waiting times.
Speaking at the inauguration, the vice-chancellor said the proper use of technology could make people’s lives easier, safer and more efficient.
“The launch of this tracking system will save time and significantly improve the quality of transport services,” he said.
Prof Ahsan added that the system would also enhance transparency and accountability in transport management by helping prevent buses from operating outside designated routes, reducing fuel wastage and facilitating quicker emergency responses when needed.
He, however, stressed the importance of ensuring regular maintenance to sustain the service in the long run.
JUCSU Vice-President Abdur Rashid Jitu said the student body had been working to make the campus more modern and student-friendly since assuming office.
“As part of that effort, we have introduced the live tracking system after launching electric carts and auto-rickshaws,” he said.
He urged the university administration to take responsibility for the regular maintenance of the technology to ensure uninterrupted service in the future.
Among others present at the event were Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr Md Shamsul Alam, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr Muhammad Nazrul Islam, Acting Director of the Transport Office, JAKSU leaders and representatives of IFAD Group.
