A legal notice has been served on the government demanding the immediate suspension of unsafe and unregulated parasailing operations at Cox’s Bazar beach and legal action against the operators involved.
The notice, sent on Tuesday by Supreme Court lawyer Nishat Farzana, also called for the formulation of strict safety guidelines for adventure tourism activities to prevent future accidents.
According to the notice, the move follows the death of a tourist on Aug. 1 after he fell while parasailing at Himchhari Daryanagar Beach in Cox’s Bazar.
The lawyer described the incident as a serious threat to tourist safety, alleging that many parasailing operations are being conducted without adequate safety measures, trained personnel or standard equipment.
The notice argued that the authorities cannot evade responsibility for allowing such hazardous and unauthorised activities to continue, saying the incident reflects a failure of administrative oversight.
Among its key demands are the immediate closure of all unsafe parasailing operations in Cox’s Bazar, the formation of an independent inquiry committee to investigate the recent accident, strict legal action against those responsible, compensation for the victim’s family and the introduction of internationally accepted safety standards for parasailing and similar adventure tourism activities.
The notice warned that if the authorities fail to take appropriate action within 15 working days, further legal steps will be taken in the public interest.
