Former Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) President Md Fazlul Haque has been appointed as the new administrator of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), the country’s apex business body.
The appointment was made through an office order issued by the Ministry of Commerce on Sunday.
According to the ministry, the appointment has been made under Section 17 of the Trade Organisations Act, 2022, in the public interest.
The order follows the removal of the previous administrator, Md Abdur Rahim Khan, a former additional secretary to the Ministry of Commerce, who was relieved of his duties effective June 27, 2026.
The ministry said Fazlul Haque’s primary responsibility will be to ensure the continuity of FBCCI’s operations and oversee a free and fair election.
Under the order, he has been instructed to complete the election within 120 days and hand over responsibilities to the newly elected committee, while informing the ministry after the process is completed.
Sources said two previous administrators were also assigned the same responsibility but failed to hold the election within the stipulated timeframe.
The order, issued by the Trade Organisation-1 Branch of the Ministry of Commerce, was signed by Shibbir Bichitra Barua, Director General (Additional Charge) of the Trade Organisation Wing.
The notification said the appointment aims to resolve the ongoing administrative deadlock at FBCCI and restore momentum within the country’s business community.
