Gold prices have risen again in Bangladesh, with the price increasing by Tk 1,691 per bhori on Saturday. The new rates came into effect at 10am.
The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) said the prices were adjusted following a rise in the price of locally traded Tejabi gold. The increase was also influenced by higher gold prices on the international market.
Under the new rates, 22-carat gold now costs Tk 234,621 per bhori, while 21-carat gold is priced at Tk 224,065. The price of 18-carat gold has risen to Tk 192,398 per bhori, while traditional-method gold costs Tk 157,172 per bhori.
Before the latest increase, 22-carat gold was priced at Tk 232,930 per bhori, 21-carat at Tk 222,491, 18-carat at Tk 191,056, and traditional-method gold at Tk 156,064.
Silver prices have also increased, rising by Tk 116 per bhori. A bhori of 22-carat silver now costs Tk 5,132.
Gold prices in Bangladesh reached a record high of Tk 286,000 per bhori on January 29 this year, after rising by Tk 16,213 in a single adjustment. Prices later fell below Tk 220,000 per bhori before rising again.
Global Market
Gold prices also fluctuated in the international market on Friday. According to GoldPrice.org, the price of gold fell by $17 per ounce that day. Over the past 30 days, gold prices have declined by $153.
Gold prices typically rise during periods of uncertainty. However, prices have moved in the opposite direction since the outbreak of the Iran-US war, falling by $242 per ounce over the past six months.
Earlier, on January 8 this year, spot gold reached a record high of $5,589 per ounce.
