Bangladesh Bank Governor Md Mostakur Rahman has urged India to increase imports of Bangladeshi products to help improve the trade balance between the two countries.
He also called for greater Indian investment in Bangladesh’s technology-driven, manufacturing and industrial sectors.
The governor made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi at Bangladesh Bank headquarters in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The meeting discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral economic, trade and financial relations between Bangladesh and India.
Rahman urged India to increase imports from Bangladesh as part of efforts to improve the bilateral trade balance.
The two sides also discussed expanding the use of Bangla QR and introducing cross-border digital payment facilities. The governor expressed interest in learning from India’s experience and exploring possible technical cooperation in these areas.
The Indian high commissioner stressed the need to make foreign investment easier in Bangladesh.
In response, Rahman said Bangladesh Bank had already taken several investment-friendly policy measures that would enable foreign investors to repatriate their invested capital and profits more easily.
He also called on Indian businesses to increase investment in Bangladesh’s technology-driven, manufacturing and industrial sectors.
The meeting was attended by Indian Deputy High Commissioner Pavan Kumar Badhe and Second Secretary (Economic and Commercial) Gaurav Kumar Agarwal.
Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governors Dr Md Habibur Rahman and Md Sarwar Hossain were also present.
