There is currently no shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in Bangladesh, importers and operators told Fuel and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud at a meeting on Monday.

At the meeting organised by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, the country’s LPG imports, stocks, supply situation and market prices were reviewed.

According to National Board of Revenue data, Bangladesh imported 157,760 tonnes of LPG in August and 118,742 tonnes during the first 22 days of September.

Based on the data, operators said LPG supply and stock levels were satisfactory and there was no current shortage.

The minister urged operators to ensure uninterrupted supply to consumers despite adequate stocks and prevent hoarding that could create an artificial shortage and cause public hardship.

He also heard about various obstacles faced by LPG operators and instructed the relevant authorities to take steps to resolve them quickly.

The ministry, he said, would provide all-out support to remove obstacles to LPG imports and maintain normal energy supplies.
