Lithuania is keen to expand trade and investment with Bangladesh in technology, transport and logistics, while seeking to strengthen bilateral commercial and cooperation ties between the two countries.

Lithuania’s Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Vidmantas Verbickas expressed the interest during a courtesy meeting with FBCCI Administrator Md Fazlul Hoque on Thursday afternoon.

Welcoming Lithuania’s interest, Fazlul Hoque called for simplifying the visa process for Bangladeshi businesspeople. He said it was difficult for Bangladeshi entrepreneurs to travel to another country to complete visa formalities.

The FBCCI administrator highlighted the trade and investment potential between Bangladesh and Lithuania, an EU member state, and said Bangladesh could benefit from Lithuania’s expertise in advanced technology, transport and logistics.

Verbickas said Lithuania’s main objective was to expand its markets beyond Europe into the Indo-Pacific region. He expressed interest in using Bangladesh as a strategic commercial hub for the region.

Regarding visa-related difficulties, the Lithuanian vice-minister said they were exploring options to establish a visa service centre in Dhaka or facilitate visa services through the consulate of another Schengen country.

Verbickas also formally invited a Bangladeshi business delegation to attend the Digitech Summit to be held in Lithuania next year and the EU-Bangladesh Business Forum.

FBCCI Secretary General Md Alamgir, Lukas Kisielius, Deputy Head of Mission at the Lithuanian Embassy in India, and Kristina Bikauskaite, attaché at the Department of Indo-Pacific Region of Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among others, attended the meeting.
