Bangladesh Bank Governor Md. Mustakur Rahman on Saturday visited Nila Market in Purbachal New Town to promote the use of the Bangla QR digital payment system, encouraging traders and consumers to embrace cashless transactions.
The visit was part of the central bank’s ongoing campaign to expand the use of the interoperable QR-based payment platform across the country.
The governor was accompanied by senior Bangladesh Bank officials, along with representatives from commercial banks and payment service providers (PSPs) involved in implementing the Bangla QR initiative.
During the visit, Rahman toured several shops, interacting with traders and customers while highlighting the advantages of digital payments. He described Bangla QR as a safe, fast and convenient payment solution that can simplify everyday financial transactions and support the country’s transition towards a cashless economy.
To demonstrate the system’s ease of use, the governor purchased various items from market vendors and paid for them using the Bangla QR platform.
He expressed optimism that the hands-on demonstration would encourage more merchants and customers to adopt the digital payment system for their daily transactions.
Bangladesh Bank has been promoting Bangla QR as a unified QR code standard that enables customers of different banks and mobile financial service providers to make seamless digital payments using a single QR code, with the aim of accelerating financial inclusion and expanding the country’s digital payment ecosystem.
