Rail communication between Dhaka and northern Bangladesh has been suspended after a coach of the Silk City Express derailed at Shaheed M. Mansur Ali Railway Station in Sirajganj on Tuesday.
The derailment occurred at around 11:00 am as the Rajshahi-bound train was entering the station in Sadandapur under Sirajganj Sadar upazila. Railway staff immediately pulled the emergency chain to stop the train, preventing a major accident.
The disruption has left several passenger trains stranded at different stations, causing significant inconvenience to hundreds of passengers.
Moniruzzaman, station master of Jamuna Bridge West (Soydabad) Railway Station, confirmed the incident. He said the Silk City Express was travelling from Rajshahi to Dhaka when one of its coaches derailed while entering Shaheed M. Mansur Ali Station. No casualties were reported.
Sirajganj Bazar Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khairul Islam said rail services between Dhaka and the northern region remain temporarily suspended due to the derailment.
He added that rescue personnel are working to recover the derailed coach and restore the railway line.
Train services are expected to resume once the recovery operation is completed.
