Bus and minibus services have been suspended indefinitely on all routes in Chuadanga following alleged attacks and assaults on transport workers by e-bike drivers.
The strike began on Saturday morning, leaving passengers stranded at bus terminals and causing widespread public suffering.
According to transport leaders, the affected routes include Chuadanga–Meherpur, Chuadanga–Jibannagar–Hasadah, Chuadanga–Jhenaidah, Chuadanga–Kushtia and Chuadanga–Hatboalia.
The dispute reportedly began on Thursday when an e-bike driver attempted to enter Chuadanga town through the Daulatdiar area. Police and representatives of the bus workers’ union allegedly stopped the driver and sent him back.
Tensions later escalated, with transport workers accusing e-bike operators of assaulting workers and obstructing a bus.
The Chuadanga Inter-District Bus-Minibus Owners’ Group said the strike would continue until the safety of transport workers is ensured and those responsible for the alleged attacks are brought to justice.
The sudden suspension of bus services has caused severe inconvenience to passengers, many of whom are being forced to use three-wheelers and other alternative vehicles at higher fares. Authorities have deployed additional police in the area and are attempting to resolve the dispute.
