Dhaka: The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued a special weather forecast warning of rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds in several parts of the country.
On Thursday (September 3), the department said there is a strong possibility of temporary gusty or squally winds, with speeds of 45–60 kilometres per hour, blowing from the south or southeast across seven major regions. Rain or thunderstorms may accompany the strong winds.
As a precaution, river ports in Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar have been advised to display Warning Signal No. 1.
According to the Meteorological Department, many areas of the country’s eight divisions—Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet—may experience light to moderate rain or thunderstorms. Some areas could also see moderately heavy to heavy rainfall.
The department said daytime and nighttime temperatures are likely to remain largely unchanged across the country.
In Dhaka and surrounding areas, the sky may remain partly cloudy to cloudy from the morning, with rain or thunderstorms possible. Winds from the south and southeast may reach 10–15 kilometres per hour, while no significant change in daytime temperature is expected.
The morning temperature in Dhaka was recorded at 27.1°C, while another reading later showed 27.7°C. Relative humidity stood at 91pc. The capital received 2 millimetres of rainfall in the preceding 24 hours.
Yesterday, Dhaka recorded a maximum temperature of 30.6°C and a minimum of 26.8°C.The sun is expected to set in Dhaka at 6:15 pm today, while sunrise tomorrow is forecast for 5:41 am.
