Import and export activities through the Benapole-Petrapole land port will remain suspended for eight consecutive days from October 17 to 24 on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja.
However, cargo clearance and customs activities at Benapole will remain operational on October 18 and 19, allowing traders to release goods that arrived at the port before the holiday. Passenger movement through the port will continue as usual, while empty trucks will also be allowed to return to India.
Badruzzaman Boni, general secretary of the Benapole C&F Agents Staff Association, said trade at India’s Petrapole port would remain suspended from October 17 to 21. In Bangladesh, cross-border trade would remain closed from October 20 to 24, including the weekly holidays.
As a result, import and export activities between the two countries will remain suspended for eight days, he said.
Benapole Land Port authorities said the two-day clearance facility had been arranged to help traders release goods already stored at the port during the festive break.
Normal import and export operations are scheduled to resume on the morning of October 25.
