DHAKA: Rain or thundershowers are likely in almost all parts of the country on the final day of the week. Influenced by the monsoon, the changing weather may bring temporary gusty winds in some areas. The weather office has also warned of the possibility of moderately heavy rainfall at some locations. Daytime and nighttime temperatures are expected to rise slightly overall.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Friday (September 18), light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty winds, may occur at one or two places in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.

The information was officially included in the department’s regular 120-hour weather forecast issued from 6pm on Thursday (September 17).

Meteorologists said the monsoon is currently fairly active over Bangladesh and remains moderate over the North Bay of Bengal. The axis of the monsoon’s extension stretches from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal in India through central Bangladesh to Assam.

Meanwhile, a special weather warning has been issued based on long-term weather observations. It said a new low-pressure system may form over the North Andaman Sea and adjoining areas by September 19. Due to favorable conditions over the sea and atmosphere, the system could subsequently intensify and become more organized.
